  • WHAT DO CHIROPRACTORS DO?

Chiropractors are concerned with the relationship between the structure and function of your body and how that relationship affects your health. A chiropractor examines the spine and extra-spinal joints and administers gentle adjustments to reduce back pain, neck pain, headaches and foster overall wellness.  Our approach also utilizes physiotherapy treatments commonly used in advanced sports medicine and physiotherapy techniques.  These include performance stretching, electrical stimulation, therapeutic ultrasound, and various manual techniques such as active and passive trigger point therapies.

WHY CHOOSE CHIROPRACTIC WITH A SPORTS MEDICINE APPROACH?

Chiropractic is the method of natural healing most chosen by those seeking complementary/alternative health care for acute and chronic conditions.  In the world of sports medicine, Chiropractic is a treatment of choice for many professional athletes to enhance performance and manage injuries.

While you may first visit a chiropractor to relieve pain in the lower back or to treat sciatica, neck pain, whiplash or headache, you will find that a chiropractor views you as a whole person and not the sum of your parts. A chiropractor will work in partnership with you to ensure your optimal health and wellness.  We will also utilize techniques used to help professional athletes reach their pre-injury performance.

CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT STARTS WITH A THOROUGH EVALUATION

When you visit a Doctor of Chiropractic, you will be evaluated using time-honored methods, including consultation, case history, and physical examination using standardized orthopedic testing.  In addition, you will receive a careful chiropractic structural examination, with particular attention paid to the spine.

TRIGGERS YOUR BODY’S ABILITY TO HEAL

Chiropractors recognize that many factors affect your health, including your current and past exercise regimen, nutrition, sleep, environment and heredity. Chiropractic focuses on maintaining your health naturally to help your body resist disease, rather than simply treating the symptoms of disease.

    INVOLVES NO DRUGS OR SURGERY

A broad range of techniques are used to locate, analyze and gently correct vertebral joint dysfunction in the spine. Chiropractors may use manual adjustment, electrical muscular stimulation, PNF stretching, ultrasound or trigger point muscle work.  Chiropractic is a natural method of healing that stimulates the body's communication system to work more effectively to initiate, control and coordinate the various functions of the cells, organs and systems of the body.

    IS CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT SAFE?

According to the American Chiropractic Association,

"Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of back pain, neck pain, joint pain of the arms or legs, headaches, and other neuromusculoskeletal complaints..." (click here to view source). In addition to being a safe form of treatment, spinal manipulation is incredibly effective, getting patients back on their feet faster than traditional medical care. A March 2004 study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that chiropractic care is more effective than medical care at treating chronic low-back pain in those patients who have been experiencing the symptoms for one year or less. In addition, a study published in the July 15, 2003, edition of the journal Spine found that manual manipulation provides better short-term relief of chronic spinal pain than a variety of medications."
